Ralph Lauren celebrates 10 years of innovation

In celebration of 10 years of digital innovation, RalphLauren.com presents the ultimate fusion of art, fashion & technology in a visual feast for the 5 senses. Watch as the London flagship at 1 New Bond Street disappears before your eyes and is then transformed into a series of objects and images rendered in 3-dimensional space. One of the best videomapping stuff i've seen.
Still finding out who did it...

Lisbon - Portuguese Republic Centennial

Praça do Comércio, downtown Lisboa, was used as a live canvas for a giant video-mapping projection on the ministry buildings by the occasion of the Portuguese Republic Centennial.

This project was produced by ADLC Audiovisuais and Iniziomedia (with some 3D mapping from
Omar Fernandes) with soundesign by Índigo. This was the first time in Lisbon that something this big was done, and hopefully many more will come..

What I don't understand is why I can't fin any official video with good quality on the web. Did they forget to record it?

Espaço ContraFacção - the opening

The opening party lasted for two days, with lots of performances and 20m concerts from different percussion groups. A great occasion to meet some friends from Porto, that came specifically to perform in this new creative warehouse. And what a great place. Here are some picks.

27.10.10

2 new warehouses dedicated to arts and performance

Next weekend (29th and 30th) Pinhal Novo (20m from Lisboa) will host the new headquarters of PIA-Projectos de Intervenção Artística and Bardoada-Grupo de Percussão do Sarrafo. This place will also function as a meeting point between performance, art, dance, music, videoart and installation, hopefully bringing out new fresh projects to the market.

For this opening, a number of friends from PIA will be performing through the weekend.
I will be presenting on Saturday a new collaborative project - a 20m performance video that I recovered from my personal files (a video footage I recorded with Rita Meneses some months ago in an abandoned warehouse) with soundscape from Álvaro Presumido. After that, VJing as usual with local DJ Magau.
Open doors and free entrance. Check out the whole program, as there will be lots of good and new stuff to see/hear.

The weekend after, on the 7th November, Armazém 13 will then open it's doors. Located in Lisboa (Benfica), I can tell you this place could easily be the next LX Factory. It's a big warehouse, ideal for the purpose - to host a bunch of crazy acrobatic circus performers. Associação ADN-Artistic Develoment Nucleus (contemporary circus), Armazém Aério (circus and dance) and Fly in Motion (pro rigging). To be used as their natural training ground, Armazém 13 will also promote workshops and courses on aerial and floor acrobatics, for start.

AC/DC vs Iron Man 2

On the site of a thousand years of violent history, ACDC were pitted against Iron Man in a ground breaking architectural projection mapping project. The front facade of the Great Keep at Rochester Castle, was brought to life using the latest in 3D animation techniques. This onslaught of the senses, saw the castle confront it's ultimate challenge. Warping, morphing, spewing and collapsing before the audiences eyes. Another Seeper Project and let there be rock!

Enesse's Bangkok Projection

Another cool example of giant building projection, with great video-mapping and interactive movement reaction. This took place every night, for three months, in the King Power Complex, in Bangkok, Thailand. Done by the australian Eness crew.

Red Bull Off The Planet - snow projection

Red Bull invited the Australian visual collective Eness to do a night projection on snow and on a giant inflatable ball, creating an animated environment for shooting some ski and snowboard pros. Using 3D animation and video-mapping on snow, the result is very cool.

Ciência na Rua 2010 - Videomorphose's "Colisão Visual"

"Colisão Visual" was the name of our 22m performance, focusing on the theme "Ways of Seeing".
For this first ever presentation, I invited to join the project Bruno Coelho (vj Artvib) and the Atomic Tour Project (pmg-keyboards, groovernador-laptop, juliogil-bass, vocals).

I really wanted to do this show with live music, taking advantage of the intimate atmosphere of this unique place. We played together for one week in Lisboa and threw ourselves to the adventure.

In the end, as I expected, the sound design worked perfectly in the space and with the mood of the images and it's presentation rhythm.

We worked with two mac powerbooks, 3 dvd's, 2 V-4 mixing tables and 12-input video matrix with 4x6.500L and 4x2.500L beamers being projected inside the 250 sqm convents cloister.

I designed the layout initially to have the 4 big projectors at the center, mounted on a truss structure, and the 4 smallers beamers to work as light design on the corridors.

But the night before we decided to just throw the smaller ones against the buildings and use them as a stereoscopic background. It worked just fine, I guess.

We are currently gathering data to edit a movie of the whole show, using the multi-cameras footage.
Of course many details need to be sharpened, but we are happy with the result.

Video-mapping is the next level, but next time we definitely need to have the whole material tuned up two or three days before, so that we have the time to do the whole mapping works.

Ciência na Rua 2010 - Victor Gama "In Extremis Sonus"

The 4th performance of the day was "In Extremis Sonus", by Victor Gama (w/videomorphose).
One more time, what a great privilege to perform with Victor Gama and his amazing instruments!

Focusing on the theme "to listen and to make hear", my videos were reacting live to his audio and being projected with 3 beamers to the 400 year old façade of the Convento das Maltezas.

Starting in a calm and minimal way, the 20m performance grew gently into a mix of colors and forms, all responding to sound spectrum analysis. I also used small video-mapping appointments on the 4 windows at the background

Victor's performance began on the left side with the Acrux, then in the middle stage the Toha and ended on the right side with the Dino. As he jumped from one instrument to the other, he added the instrument samples in order to end with a major rhythmic structure. The sounds are unique, when you have the chance please go and listen.
At the end of the shows Victor always lets people touch and try out the instruments.

Ciência Na Rua 2010 - the event

Science and Art meet together to create some of the great moments of earth's Evolution of the Species Theory.
Math, Physics, Chemistry, Geology and Biology vs Street Theatre, Music&Video, Circus, Performance and Fire.

An event organized by Évora University and other state entities and with the artistic coordination by PIA. Besides all performances, small tents spread allover with live experiments. They had a whole bunch of young scientists teaching kids, it was great!

Desperate Man opened the sequence of 7 performances in Estremoz, that ran from 5pm to 00h.
This humorous duo presented Darwin & Dodo in a very informal talk in the middle of the street.
Briefly, they introduced the whole Theory of Evolution in a very funny way, being Dodo the symbol of human ignorance. Children just loved them.

Boom Festival 2010

This year's edition of Boom was an amazing experience. Not only because of the new incredible location, with a beautiful waterline sunset, but also because the week-long stay was overwhelmed with global love, creative artwork, enriching music and state-of-the-art performances, exhibitions, workshops and talks.

Like to stress out the outstanding work of the Boom team in keeping the festival's environment clean and in promoting a better and better sustainable production each edition.

I had the privilege to do the visuals for the full-moon concert at the Sacred Fire stage.
This special night we had a packed audience to listen to the first ever gathering of live Tribal Trance, with major names like Ganga Giri, Hilight Tribe, Wild Marmelade, Tribal Dance and Olive Tree. Unique!

Boom, we are one!
Looking forward to 2012

BLU strikes back...in Lisbon

My favorite urban art artist BLU is right here in Lisbon.
Passing by Alameda Fontes Pereira de Mello, downtow, I noticed his traditional graphic fingerprint on one of three side-by-side empty buildings.
Who brought them, what are they up to? To be followed...

You can see some older posts of their work here and here.

More news update: it is a cooperative work between Blu (it), Os Gémeos (br) and Sam3 (es).
This is part of the CRONO project promoted by ACA-Azáfama Citadina Associação, which aims to bring to life old empty building in Lisboa. The CRONO project wants to establish a Urban Art Guide, inviting 4 times a year international artists to come and develop joint projects with portuguese artists.

Last saturday I did the visuals at Alcântara Café for the presentation of the official line-up and decor of the Deluxe VIP area of Sensation White Wickedland, to take place on the 19th June in Lisboa.

Data Visualization - Lisbon Traffic

Lisbon's traffic condensed in one 24h video. This great data visualization was made by Pedro Cruz, who has some very interesting stuff on his website. The arteries are colored in a away capable to represent average traffic speeds (the greenish and cooler represents high traffic velocity, and the reddish and hotter, corresponds to sluggish traffic). There is a visual emphasis on areas where the traffic is predominantly slow.

D-Fuse videomapping in Jakarta

D-Fuse's video mapping projection on Jakarta History Museum's facade was the first of it's kind in Indonesia. Over 25 thousand people flooded Fatahillah Square to watch the event, which marked the launch of the British Council's Jakarta, Creative City! initiative.

D-Fuse collaborated with film maker Sakti Parantean, designer Adi Panuntun and photographer Feri Latief, in the spectacular makeover of the Old City’s most important heritage site.

The Video-Mapping projection traces the history of the area from ancient swamp, through colonial and revolutionary times, to imagining its future as Jakarta's new creative playground.
