Lumina Festival 2014

The 3rd edition of LUMINA Light Festival took place in Cascais 12 to 14 September 2014, and showcased 26 artworks coming from numerous countries scattered along the Path of Light, offering the public moments of discovery, magic and thrill. The program was varied and included details that remembered us the connection of the Town with the sea and light.

The choice of renowned and internationally recognized artists in the field of the art of light, took the audience to feel completely involved, outperforming the only contemplative side that light brings.

Light shows, luminous sculptures and installations that interacted with visitors, multimedia projections and video mapping on buildings and, on the most emblematic places of the village, tribute was paid to the local heritage, proposed by Nuno Maya and Carole Purnelle, creators and artistic directors of the Festival.

One just had to follow the Blue Light! Come with me...

Massive Grand Mosque Projection

Obscura Digital continues to impress, mainly because of their huge (and I mean huge!) video-mapping projects all around the world. Recently they were invited to present a special show to commemorate the United Arab Emirates National Day, by mapping the all-white Sheikh Zayed Grande Mosque in Abu Dhabi. They used 44 20K projectors with a combined brightness of 840,000 lumens to cover a surface 183m wide x 107m high. Massive result.

Immersive Imaging using Video Mapping

Check out this guy's room totally change into the movie he is watching!

Greatfilmsfillrooms.com was funded by Video Store of PlayStation® to make a series of movie related videos using 'Immersive Imaging' which takes 3D projection mapping as its starting point, but gives the viewer a supercharged experience with the help of the PlayStation Move controller.

In the past, projection mapping worked only from a single, static view point, and thus was very limited. By attaching the PlayStation Move to the camera, they now track projections to screens in real time, enhancing the effect of spatial deformation and false perspective on the projections and allowing viewers to look round (virtual) corners, bend walls, create a hole in the wall, or remove the walls altogether to reveal vast expanses of virtual worlds.
