Lumina Festival 2014

The 3rd edition of LUMINA Light Festival took place in Cascais 12 to 14 September 2014, and showcased 26 artworks coming from numerous countries scattered along the Path of Light, offering the public moments of discovery, magic and thrill. The program was varied and included details that remembered us the connection of the Town with the sea and light.

The choice of renowned and internationally recognized artists in the field of the art of light, took the audience to feel completely involved, outperforming the only contemplative side that light brings.

Light shows, luminous sculptures and installations that interacted with visitors, multimedia projections and video mapping on buildings and, on the most emblematic places of the village, tribute was paid to the local heritage, proposed by Nuno Maya and Carole Purnelle, creators and artistic directors of the Festival.

One just had to follow the Blue Light! Come with me...

I Lost my Heart in Lisboa

Oskar&Gaspar, a well know portuguese visual artists duo teamed up with several other artists to put together an enormous 15 minute multimedia show early September, projected on the west side of Terreiro do Paço, called "I lost my heart in Lisboa". The music was made by Beatbombers (Dj Ride & Stereossauro) feat Holly.

This was a journey through the city where, in search of the lost heart, you explored the multiplicity of cultures, languages and sounds through the portuguese capital's main iconography.

The video mapping projection was further enhanced by a very cool light show. Check also all photos through the hashtag #perdiocoracaoemlisboa.

Interior design mapping

I would love to own a space in Lisbon were I could just play around with visuals like this. Hopefully it may happen sooner than I think :-)

Vienna Belvedere Palace 2014

This work on the Belvedere Palace for Illuminarium3000 in Vienna showcased an illustrative presentation of the content bended on 3D mapping approach. Main chronology, famous artists, notable scientists, architects and a small volume of information, in comparison to general knowledge about Austria, fit in 8 minutes 40 seconds, however, showed the splendor of a small but mega-progressive state. Plus, the unique and beautiful in architecture palace building is also a great help!

Box, by The Creators Project

Box explores the synthesis of real and digital space through projection-mapping on moving surfaces.
The short film documents a live performance, captured entirely in camera. Bot & Dolly produced this work to serve as both an artistic statement and technical demonstration.

It is the culmination of multiple technologies, including large scale robotics, projection mapping, and software engineering. This methodology has tremendous potential to radically transform theatrical presentations, and define new genres of expression.

Check out also the making-of of the whole project here.

Arco de Luz - A very cool 3D videomapping about Lisboa

Nuno Maya and Carole Purnelle, from O Cubo, pushed videomapping in Portugal to another level, by developing a very well done storytelling about the history of Lisboa.
From August 9th to 18th,, three daily shows widespread among the whole fassades of Praça do Comércio, downtown Lisboa and by the river, to showcase a thorough 3D animated story of Lisboa, since the Arab invasion, passing by the 1873 earthquake to the full city reconstruction by Marquês de Pombal.
Well done either the team and also the Lisbon city-hall, who believed in such a project. It should continue every night until winter time, the tourists would be grateful, I'm sure!

*Spark lauunches a Crossfader between Laptops

Toby Spark, a well know VJ, just launched an interesting piece of hardware.
The *spark d-fuser lets you crossfade between laptops. Whether switching between presenters or pushing avant-garde pixels, hands-on control for mixing DVI, VGA and HDMI signals is now available in a compact and affordable package.

So, what's in the 750 pound box?

To make the *spark d-fuser, we take an award winning video processor, partner it with a custom controller designed to give you the hands on control and worry free setup you need, and work both these over with custom firmware.
The controller sits up where your sources are, allowing you to push the processor and video cables away from your working area. Wiring is simple – see the adjacent diagram. The video out can go direct to a single screen, or using devices such as the Matrox TripleHead2Go Digital Edition, you can drive multiple displays as if they were one.
Supplied as the *spark d-fuser package are
  • Controller
  • Controller Power Supply
  • Processor
